Plinius tells us: ‘… the natron melted at the touch with the flames’ heat, merging with the beach sand and in that moment, they saw a new transparent liquid, created with this mix…’
This is most likely just a legend, but it was born almost absolutely because many glass manufacturers, at the time, used to take the sand of this river, in order to model the glass.
