Crystal Ware: the Art of Lights and Reflections
Crystal ware is a product that you can obtain through modelling glass, to which you can add up until 35% of lead. It is very resistant, hard but shiny and it is employed in the creation of many artistic objects, perfect as gift ideas for occasions or special events.
If you add potassium to the glass material, you can obtain the prestigious Bohemian crystals.
The History of Crystal
Crystal is a particularly refined material which, through time, has marked many populations’ histories.
Its origins seemed to be lost in the most ancient and dark nights, even if people have created many interesting legends, around this peculiar material.
One of these legends tells us how glass and crystal discoveries happened mainly out of luck.
Crystal Ware: a Constant Artistic Evolution
The historian Plinius tells us the accidental story of glass and crystal in one of his tales, which revolve around the adventures of some Phoenician merchants, who arrived at the Belo river’s banks in Syria, at around 5000 a. C.
They stopped on its sandy banks and lighted some fires. Unfortunately, they did not have anything where they could put pots and utensils, so they used some nitrate blocks, taken by their load.
Plinius tells us: ‘… the natron melted at the touch with the flames’ heat, merging with the beach sand and in that moment, they saw a new transparent liquid, created with this mix…’
This is most likely just a legend, but it was born almost absolutely because many glass manufacturers, at the time, used to take the sand of this river, in order to model the glass.
Crystal stood out through time, easily and quickly enough, as a prestigious material and refined elegance that you can use to decor your home. Its superior shininess and sublime transparency have always attracted and fascinated.
It has soon become an artistic material, used by the greatest manufacturers such as Saint Louis, Baccarat, Lalique, in order to create real work of arts, to show with sentiment and pride.
These auteur brands stand out as milestones of crystal ware world, realizing some of the most fascinating collections ever saw on this planet. Their productions are so beautiful that deserve, up to this day, to be shown at home, almost like in a real antique and contemporary art museum.
