Murano. During the early 1920s, from an entrepreneurial union between a Venetian antique dealer and a Milanese expert in glass processing, what we all know as the Venini company was born. Already in its first five years of life, the Venetian company, under the artistic direction of the painter Vittorio Zecchin, embarked on a journey in the evasion of schemes related to tradition, and thus let itself go towards experimentation, avant-garde art, and manufacturing techniques increasingly innovative. Successful exhibitions and decorative arts exhibitions begin, these conquer the Italian and – above all – foreign scene. Venini starts collaborations with esthetics, painters, designers and renowned architects of the time, and touches the highest artistic excellence and, thus, matures a high level of experimentation. This growth, announced at the dawn of the sixties, is the turning point towards the affirmation of the Venini style in the world of Contemporary Art and Modern Design, where the rules of avant-garde aesthetics bow to the mastery of the ancient art of making blown and handmade glass.
