One of Gio Ponti’s most original inventions, the perforated disc was first conceived between 1928 and 1929. Originally produced in three different sizes, the form is reminiscent of the ancient Chinese bi disc used in funeral rituals, but it may also reference the monstrance used in Catholic liturgy. In both cases, Ponti plays with irony and sacred iconography, transforming spiritual symbols into a sophisticated design object.
Ginori 1735 Gio Ponti Arte Disco Forato Angel’s Love is a collector’s item, created in a numbered series.
The Angel’s Love pattern is emblematic of Pontiโs ability to blend esotericism, eroticism, and classicism into a harmonious visual language. The angels depicted are not traditional religious figures, but mythological beingsโreminiscent of sirensโintertwined in sensual embraces. These ethereal creatures float across the gold-finished porcelain surface in a surreal composition, while the reverse side features geometric patterns echoing other themes in Pontiโs oeuvre.
A fusion of creativity and function, the disc can serve as a striking decorative element or as a refined paperweight, perfect for elegant home or office settings. The bold presence and symbolic richness of this piece spark conversation and invite reflection on the thin boundaries between sacred and profane, art and utility.
Ginori 1735 Gio Ponti Arte Disco Forato Angel’s Love entirely hand-painted and produced in a limited, numbered edition, each disc is signed under the base. With its luminous elegance and daring imagery, Amore degli Angeli reflects Pontiโs avant-garde vision, which helped define the identity of Ginori 1735 as a symbol of Italian excellence in design and craftsmanship. Still studied and admired today, his creations remain a benchmark in the world of decorative arts.
