The famous fishnet décor adorning many of the animals took form in 1858 when a Herend painter became inspired by a fishscale design he saw on a Chinese porcelain pieces and painted a similar pattern onto a rooster figurine to imitate feathers.
A full moon and crisp winter landscape seem to be reflected in the dramatic black, platinum and mesh gray tones of Lying Wolf. On a long winter night when tales are often told, the wolf’s proud attitude and the intense depth of his eyes seem to speak of ancient conquests and victories that are yet to come.
