The “Versailles” mini vase by Saint-Louis is with a height of 10 cm the little sister of the large “Versailles” vase. The original shape of the “Versailles” vase comes from a 17th century marble vase sculpted by Jean Cornu, which can still be seen in the gardens of the Versailles Castle in France. To celebrate the centenary of the original “Versailles” vase, Saint-Louis is giving this vase a radical change in size. The mini vase is a decorative multi-purpose object, humorously playing with an emblematic Saint-Louis shape by making a miniature of it.
Created in 1950 the Versailles vase tests the strength and precision of Saint-Louis glassblowers and glasscutters: no less than seven to eight weeks of work are necessary for the creation of its largest model. The shape and the design, with the diamond and slice cuts, are inspired by the urns in the Garden of Versailles. The purest expression of the French style.
