About the Hermès Cheval d’Orient Collection
The Hermès Cheval d’Orient collection evokes the journeys of silk caravans and the visual richness of the Orient through a distinctive interpretation of equestrian imagery. Horses appear across landscapes filled with ornamental details and floral elements, recalling the storytelling quality of Persian miniature painting while giving the collection a distinctly Hermès character.
Designed by Nathalie Rolland-Huckel, Cheval d’Orient combines richly colored compositions with carefully controlled decorative details. Hermès describes the collection as using a palette of 29 colors, applied across its 55-piece range to create individual compositions for different forms of tableware and decorative objects.
The decoration is screen-printed and applied by hand using a gold thread, adding depth and luminosity to the intricate designs. Made in France, the collection revisits classic Western tableware forms while introducing distinctive shapes and proportions inspired by the traditions and imagery of the Orient.
Cheval d’Orient extends beyond everyday dining to include pieces for lunch, dinner and tea and coffee, as well as serving and decorative objects.
