Bernardaud Plates: A Legendary Porcelain Production in Limoges

Bernardaud is a prime example of a family business that has endured in Europe and successfully weathered the test of time.

The pioneer of this illustrious dynasty in the porcelain manufacturing business was Michel Bernardaud, whose innovative firing techniques laid the foundation for a series of groundbreaking solutions.

With each stage of the factory’s development, a new standard was set, making Bernardaud porcelain a benchmark of quality.

In the mid-20th century, a new leader of the factory, Jacques Bernardaud, who succeeded his father in this role, focused on the artistic refinement of the porcelain.

A significant milestone was marked by a vibrant collaboration with Marc Chagall: the artist personally painted a service for 69 persons.

Since then, and to this day, collaboration with outstanding designers and artists has become an integral part of the brand’s work.

The Roseraie porcelain collection dates back to the second half of the 18th century and is a prime example of the decorative arts of the Enlightenment.

Bernardaud plates Louvre

Bernardaud’s Louvre porcelain collection is a kaleidoscope of French architectural styles popular in different periods of history.

Each item from this tableware tells about a specific architectural style that was popular in France at one time or another.

The designers chose a delicate white palette, diluted with grayish blue enamel.

The main decorative role is assigned to a pronounced textured pattern, reminiscent of luxurious bas-reliefs of historical buildings.

Despite the difference in design, all the Bernardaud plates look realy homogenious and that emphasizes the beauty of the rare Limoges porcelain.

Bernardaud plates Twist Again

The Twist Again porcelain tableware from the Bernardaud brand combines a number of decorative elements.

The delicate design is inspired by the beauty of Japanese rice paper screens. A complex geometric pattern consisting of small repeating elements is also associated with wicker furniture from the mid-20th century.

Bernardaud designers used gold plating, which further emphasizes the beauty of the geometric pattern.

The alternation of matte and glossy textures in combination with an unusual ornament forms a single dynamic composition, bringing a festive feel to the tableware design.

Bernardaud plates Twist Gold

The Twist Gold collection became a continuation of the main Twist series, previously released by the Bernardaud.

This time, the designers abandoned the monochrome design in favor of bright gilding.

The shimmering coating adorns the entire geometric pattern on the plates, emphasizing every detail of the relief.

At the same time, the smooth part of the products that is the middle of the plates remains snow-white.

The balance between sparkling gilding and pure porcelain makes the Twist Gold Bernardaud plates look extremely harmonious.

Bernardaud plates Twist Platinum

The Twist Platinum is the reflection of elegance and high style.

The strict geometric pattern, emphasized by relief details and platinum plating, looks unusually dynamic, thanks to the special arrangement of repeating elements of the pattern.

The glossy precious metal coating gives this collection of tableware a modern, slightly brutal look.

The complete table setting from this unusual porcelain series definitely takes on a special character.

Bernardaud plates Constance

The bright Constance porcelain bernardaud plates, made in the Empire style, attract attention with its rich colors and symmetrical painted decor.

Acorns, carved oak and laurel leaves and other plant motifs, made of green enamel and real gold, make up a multifaceted harmonious composition.

The Constance collection is associated with spring freshness, as if it was created for a romantic dinner on an open terrace overlooking a blooming garden.

The arrangement of decorative elements on the plates is different as borders and garlands of different thicknesses alternate dark green and white backgrounds giving the serving the necessary dynamics.

Bernardaud plates Ecume

The Ecume porcelain Bernardaud dinnerware, whose name means “foam” in French, has a very unusual stylish design.

Almost the entire surface of the plates is covered with textured engraving, which resembles an airy sea surf with many small bubbles.

Bernardaud plates Naxos

The Naxos Bernardaud porcelain collection is the invention of the creative tandem of the Bernardaud manufactory and the famous French artist Olivier Gagnaire.

Named after the Greek island of Naxos, this Bernardaud tableware collection is designed for dining on an outdoor terrace by the sea.

Made from dazzling white Limoges porcelain, the plates are decorated with a large relief design, reminiscent of a characteristic geometric pattern, as if descended from ancient Greek objects of art.

Due to the absence of paints, these Bernardaud plates fit perfectly with almost any interior.

Bernardaud plates Opaline

The Opaline is a vibrant collection of high-quality porcelain charger plates from the renowned brand Bernardaud.

The series features a total of 17 plates in various colors, ranging from neutral to rich shades.

Choose charger plates in a single color for presentation, or mix several shades to add playful dynamic accents to your table setting.

Bernardaud plates Dune

The porcelain Dune dinnerware set immediately captures attention with its distinctive design.

Each piece in the collection is adorned with a wide border featuring an abstract pattern reminiscent of sand dunes in the desert.

The platinum overlay, with its chaotic grooves resembling marks left by strong gusts of wind, beautifully glistens in the light.

A delicate platinum rim frames the decorative border, complementing the composition perfectly.

The intensity of the pattern varies across different pieces, ranging from a rich, almost solid coverage to a barely noticeable painting, diluted by the natural whiteness of the porcelain.

Bernardaud plates Aux Oiseaux

The Aux Oiseaux porcelain Bernardaud tableware is a prime example of successful stylization, perfectly capturing the atmosphere of the Enlightenment era.

The collection is inspired by the curiosity cabinets, so popular among the European nobility of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Against a black and white background, branches of trees, colorful birds, and butterflies are depicted.

Such unusual subjects and the technique of their execution reminiscent of antique Japanese prints. Gold and platinum gilding emphasize the exclusivity of the tableware.

Exquisite Bernardaud plates look equally stunning both on their own and when combined with classic white tableware.

Bernardaud plates A La Reine

A La Reine is one of the most famous tableware collections of the Limoges porcelain brand that was released for the first time in 1784.

The presentation of this luxurious tableware collection was timed to coincide with the granting of royal status to the Limoges factory.

Some original pieces from the collection that have survived to this day can be seen in the exhibitions of the world’s largest museums.

The design of these Bernardaud plates fully reflects the tendency of the late 18th century: carved edges, floral motifs, gilding, and a delicate color palette.

Bernardaud plates Louis XV

The Louis XV porcelain tableware was produced in 1757 by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory specifically for Louis XV.

The luxurious tableware made from the renowned Limoges porcelain was intended for the royal residence of Fontainebleau, and part of the antique collection still resides there.

Lavish floral garlands of rich fuchsia color adorn each piece of the tableware, complemented by carved gilded edges reminiscent of antique scrolls.
