Wirkkala’s design revived the ancient Incalmo technique, a fusion process that had been nearly forgotten. The Venini Bolle 503.02 employs this technique to fuse two molten glass elements—straw yellow and grass green—creating a seamless blend of colors. The process allows for the creation of concentric color bands, adding depth and individuality to each bottle. At the base of the Venini Bolle 503.02, a raised element symbolically mirrors the bounce of a water droplet, emphasizing the natural inspiration behind the design and showcasing the skill of Venini’s artisans. This distinct detail adds character and highlights the exceptional craftsmanship involved. The Incalmo technique lies at the heart of the Bolle design, with each layer of color carefully fused with precision. The smooth, uninterrupted bands of vibrant color reflect the centuries-old traditions of glassmaking, resulting in a piece that transcends mere functionality to become a unique work of art.
