Hermès Tressages Équestres Design
Designed by Virginie Jamin, Hermès Tressages Équestres takes inspiration from the braiding and passementerie of equestrian harnesses, connecting the collection to the Maison’s long-standing relationship with the world of horses. The design focuses on the details of harnesses, where intertwined cotton or leather cords reveal the work of the artisan as well as the connection between horse and rider. Hermès presents the collection as a subtle dialogue between figurative and abstract forms.
The collection is distinguished by the contrast between caolin white porcelain and a vivid palette of lemon yellow, mint green, petrol blue and natural tones inspired by fiber and leather. Jamin’s original pen-and-gouache drawings create fine and dense lines that give depth and volume to the woven textures. The motifs vary in scale and composition from one piece to another, allowing the tableware to form a cohesive setting without relying on a single repeated pattern.
The 27-piece Tressages Équestres service is designed for lunch, dinner and tea and coffee and includes 10 new concave forms, giving the collection a particularly distinctive range of silhouettes. The different shapes and compositions are designed to work together while adapting to different cuisines and styles of dining.
Hermès uses chromolithographic decoration applied by hand on the porcelain, and the pieces are made in France. Designed for frequent use, Hermès states that the Tressages Équestres tableware is dishwasher and microwave safe, combining the collection’s expressive equestrian-inspired decoration with practical everyday use.
